Storks Baby Builder

Role: Art Direction, Interaction & Visual Design Lead, Iconography Design, Social Design

I developed the look for the Prime Video "Blue Room," a talent portrait studio that moves to every major industry and fan event where the brand has a presence, including SXSW, Comic-con, and Essence Fest. As a result, the brand is rapidly growing a library of talent photography with a consistent and ownable brand look.

UI Design: Levels of Customization

For the many character customization options, there was a need for a clear selection and sub-selection structure.

For the main-selection categories, I designed a rotational wheel that contained major selection groups like hair, eye shape, and skin tone. When a selection was made, a left-to-right slide appeared with sub-category options.

This functionality gave separation and hierarchy to the selection experience and felt more intuitive when designing a character.

Color & Accessibility

I wanted users to have a clear sense for when they transitioned from one category to another, so I gave each category a unique color theme. At first glance, this helped the interfaces feel more distinct, and the transition between them, more apparent.

However, relying on color alone presented accessibility challenges. To solve this, I designed clear iconography for each category, with text labels and high contrast hover states. This ensured the most inclusive approach to accessibility.

Visual Design

I was the sole design lead for the visual design of this project. I wanted the look of the experience to feel joyful, rich with color, yet still modern. Since this was a mobile-first experience, I began there.

Iconography System

I designed a full suite of iconography that encompassed color, textures, and vector illustrations. These icons were an integral part to the customization experience.

Social Design

The user's final creation was generated onto a shareable social post. I designed a templated framework that allowed for further customization, where users could choose their the background color and play room accessories like building blocks or books.
